Advance Tax Calculator
Estimate this year's tax, subtract the TDS already cut, and see exactly what to pay by each due date. Enter what you've paid so far to check for shortfalls and the interest they'd cost.
How this works
- Who pays: anyone whose tax for the year, after TDS and TCS, is ₹10,000 or more. Resident seniors (60+) with no business or professional income are exempt.
- Due dates: at least 15% by 15 June, 45% by 15 September, 75% by 15 December and 100% by 15 March. On the presumptive scheme, the full amount is due by 15 March.
- Interest for paying late (Section 425, old 234C): 1% a month on the shortfall: 3 months each for June, September and December, and 1 month for March. You're safe if you've paid at least 12% by June and 36% by September.
- Interest for paying too little (Section 424, old 234B): if you've paid less than 90% of your tax by 31 March, 1% a month on the unpaid tax from April until you pay. This estimate assumes you pay by 31 July.
- Tax: slab rates for your regime, standard deduction on salary (₹75,000 new / ₹50,000 old), 20% on short-term equity gains, 12.5% on long-term equity gains above ₹1.25 lakh, and 4% cess. The ₹12 lakh rebate in the new regime doesn't apply to these capital gains.
An estimate for resident individuals. If a capital gain arises suddenly, paying the tax in the remaining instalments usually avoids late-payment interest on it. Pay through the income-tax portal's e-Pay Tax service (challan ITNS 280) on the income-tax portal and check final figures with a CA.
